Bansko town is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It has narrow cobbled streets with stone houses, 120 cultural monuments, museums and permanent ethnographic exhibitions. In the centre is The Holy Trinity church with its 30 m high bell tower and clock, splendid murals and woodcarvings.
In summer hiking, climbing and horse riding are popular. There are well signed routes and hikers' chalets. Mountain bikes can be hired in order to explore this beautiful region. Local companies can organise trips in the mountains e.g. white water rafting, canoeing, paragliding. Also in summer the town hosts a week long jazz festival and other events.
For après ski the traditional Bansko tavern ("Mehana"), with their exceptional charm and style offer local atmosphere with their cuisine and good selection of Bulgarian wines. Most of the local "Mehanas" even offer live folk music. A visit or two to these is a must! Discos and night clubs work without time limit, and usually close early in the morning.
As the cost of living is very cheap in Bulgaria, your money will go several times further here than in skiing resorts in other parts of Europe.

Bansko lies at the foot of the Pirin Mountains. In the summer it is the perfect starting point for both treking and short walks in the Pirin National Park.
Cycling - bikes are available to hire from the hotel.
Horse Riding - the Peri Vollas Horse riding center provides qualified instructors and offers riding lessons for beginners, adults and children.

Our Chalet is set in the grounds of the new 4 star Katarino Spa Hotel. It has a balcony overlooking its own private south facing garden with sun beds to enjoy summer sun or winter apres ski. It's typically 30 deg.C in the summer, whilst temperatures fall dramatically in the winter ski season. This is truly an all year round holiday destination. Onsite facilities include restaurant, pub "Mehana", lobby bar, hairdressers, ski room, table tennis, pool, souvenir shop and internet club.

The transfer time from Sofia to Bansko is 2 to 3 hours.
For flights - Wizz Air, (From 1 May 2006 Wizz Air fly direct to Sofia from London-Luton for under £70 return including taxes!! Similarly, Easyjet now fly Gatwick to Sofia.
The chalet owner can organise private transfers from £60.

Booking notes
Prices are self catering and are to rent the chalet, not per person. Buffet style Breakfast & Dinner in the Katarino Hotel is 15 EUR (£11) per day for adults and 10 EUR (£7) per day for children.
30% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm booking. Booking balance of 70% is due 2 months before arrival.
GBP 150 refundable deposit to cover possible breakages.

I would like to thank you for staying in your lovely chalet, we had a lovely week, my wife had numerous treatments in the spa, so much so she never made it into Bansko, my Son learnt to ski and did tomba on our last day as well.
Everything went to plan, our taxi driver met us at the airport and gave us a scenic tour of sofia on our departure as well. In future years we would like to return so if OK I`ll keep your email, also we have friends we could recommend it to, if that's alright too.

Golf
The Ian Woosnam Design Pirin Golf Holiday Club complex is two miles away. This is a unique 27 hole course.
The gentle undulations and mature pine trees are set against the picturesque mountains which provide a perfect backdrop. The small rock outcroppings and general rocky nature of the soil gives the entire site a rugged quality which is in keeping with the surroundings.
At the end of October 2005 Ian Woosnam made a design visit to Pirin Golf & Holiday Club where construction began in May, Ian walked the site inspecting the work done to date. “I’ve done a few golf courses in different parts of the world,” he told the news conference in Sofia, “but I have to say this is the most impressive that I’ve seen”.
Ski
Ski and snowboard equipment can be hired at the hotel. Skis, boots and poles for an adult, for 6 days are about 50 EUR (36 GBP). Half price for children under 12 years.Bansko is 5 miles away; there is a shuttle bus which runs every 15 minutes to the bottom of the gondola and back.
Bansko is the newest and the most rapidly developing ski resorts in Bulgaria. 40 million Euros have been invested, to create a top rate facility with the best equipment, including a new gondola, snow guns, electronic ski pass system etc. There are 14 pistes totalling 65km, including a 16 km run plus cross country and excellent off piste skiing. Bansko is popular with snowboarders; facilities include a half pipe. There is a top class ski school for all levels of ability. The balcony and private garden have spectacular, uninterrupted views of the mountains. There are sunbeds for the summer sun or apres ski relaxation.
The hotel has an indoor swimming pool (22m x 5.6m), and an outdoor pool which is heated to 36 deg.C in the winter.
The hotel spa facilities are fantastic & not to be missed.
