Travel
Carcassonne Airport is fiteen minutes drive. A car is not essential but is recommended if you wish to visit the area in general. The rail station is twenty minutes walk.
Distances
Mirapoix – beautiful market square with wood frame buildings and arcaded all round. Take the D119 from Carcassonne via Fanjeaux.
Trebes – Canal du Midi – Take N113 south.
Montagne Noir – take the D118 north to Mazamet – Lakes, walks in beautiful scenery.
• Chateaux de Lastours – 4 ruined castles on a rocky ridge
• Grotte de Limousis
• Gouffre de Cabrespine – subterranean galleries with huge caverns.
Narbonne – town, and beaches to the south of Narbonne Plage, Gruissan Plage, Leucate Plage.
Pezenas – beautiful old town with narrow streets, many antique shops and a lovely atmosphere.
Perpignan – via autoroute A61/A9 or N113 to Narbonne then N9 south to Perpignan.
Minervois – many small villages and lots of vineyards for degustation.
Minerve (in Minervois) – ancient Crusade and Cathar fortified village in rugged scenery.
Toulouse – University City with lots of “feel” and atmosphere. It is worth taking the train from Carcassonne as parking can be difficult but also, it is just as quick and less hassle.
Corbieres – South of Carcassonne - lovely country side and places to visit include La Grasse and St Hilaire (near to Limoux for the well known sparkling Champagne style wine that is reputed to be older than the Champagne area of Northern France.
Andorra – A long day but a great drive through the Pyrenees. You can drive via the D119/D12 to Foix then N20 taking signs for Andorra. You can return via Font Romeu, Quillan and Limoux.

The nearest restaurant is only one minute’s walk and there are many more within easy walking distance.—and you do not have to break the bank to do it!
If you prefer to eat at home you can purchase your food at the Hypermarkets situated in the industrial zones on the outskirts of the city. They are all very good but the quality and prices do vary slightly. Alternatively the general stores, on the left hand side of rue Trivalle walking towards the Bastide, has a very good stock of supplies.
Bread
A bread van comes at about 9 am every morning, except Sunday, and you will hear him sounding his horn. The baguettes are very good. If you miss him, there is a Patisserie/Boulangerie (Cesar Anton) in rue Trivalle on the right towards the Old Bridge and after the hotel on the left. It is about 3 minutes walk (closed Monday).
Shopping
Apart from the general store and the Patisserie in rue Trivalle, there are many shops in the Bastide St Louis a 10 minute walk across the Old Bridge. The main Market Day is Saturday (morning), in Place Carnot. There is also a market on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The covered market near the Place Carnot (every morning) sells cheese, meat and a wide selection of fish.
Supermarkets and Hypermarkets are situated in industrial zones on the outskirts of Carcassonne.
Salvaza (near the Airport) - Geant, Intermarche, Lidl (the latter two are situated further down the road towards Centre Ville).
Toulouse Road—E. Leclerc Hypermarket, sports super stores, clothes stores.
Cite 2—Turn right out of the one way street in the direction of
Narbonne and Trebes, there is a large complex of hypermarkets and various stores including Geant.
Booking notes
The rental is on a Saturday to Saturday basis commencing at 4 pm and ending at 10am.
In addition to the rental, there is a small local tourist tax to pay, which we collect from you and pay on your behalf to the Carcassonne Town Council. This is Euro 0.30 per person per day or Euro 2.30 per person per week (14 years and over) and has to be paid with your final payment.
A deposit of 50% of the total rental will secure your reservation.
The balance is due 8 weeks prior to the first day of your stay and must be received into our bank account BEFORE that date.
Changeover day
Our change over day is Saturday - 10 a.m. departure and 4 p.m. arrival. It may be possible to use another day during the 'off' season.

Accessibility
The ground floor is more than one level and there are deep steps from the kitchen to the courtyard and the kitchen to the shower room.
