It is conveniently located for the picturesque fishing village of Honfleur, the Bayeux Tapestry, Lisieux with its famous basilica, William the Conqueror's castle at Falaise, the seaside resorts of Deauville and Trouville, and the battlefields and landing beaches of Northern France. Slightly further afield are Monet's garden at Giverny, Mont St Michel, Paris and Disneyland Paris, all great day trips out
The rich pasture of Normandy allows you to sample some of the best produce that France can offer. Whether it be the famous cheeses of Camembert, Livarot and Pont L’Evêque, or the wonderfully voluptuous flavour of Norman butter, you will not be disappointed with nature’s bounty.
Dishes such as filet mignon de porc normande (pork fillet cooked with apples, cider and calvados), poulet Vallée d’Auge (chicken cooked with cream and calvados) and gigot d’agneau à la normande (leg of lamb cooked with beans and cider) all sum up the gastronomic spirit of Normandy. Add to this desserts such as tarte normande (apple tart) and gratin de pommes Vallée d’Auge (calvados soaked apple crumble) and you will have experienced a truly wonderful meal.
If of course if it all gets too much don’t forget le trou normand (literally the Norman hole), a glass of calvados halfway through the meal reputed to aid digestion.
Whether walking, cycling or riding, La Bucaille is an ideal starting point for exploring Normandy and a great place to exercise away the meals of yesterday whilst building your appetite for the meals of tomorrow.
