The Medieval village of Gattieres is a 10 minute walk from the villa and has 3 excellent restaurants and bars, plus a supermarket, pharmacy, newsagent, hairdresser, traiteur, butcher and one of the most renowned bakeries in the area, where you can sip your coffee in the morning and watch the village life evolve. The village has retained its authenticity and is very French.
The villa is also on a bus route to St Laurent du Var and the sea. Nice airport and the Promenade des Anglais is only 20 minutes drive away, with its beaches, vast array of shops, its old town, discos, fascinating museums and abundance of international restaurants, and art galleries.
Gattieres is extremely well situated to visit the mountain villages with wonderful flora, fauna and diverse walks. The well known GR51 walk crosses through Gattieres for those who enjoy serious walking. Rivers provide good fishing. Golf is nearby.
Monaco, Cannes, Antibes and the Italian border are all within easy reach by the motorway from St Laurent du Var, a 10-15 minute drive away.

The 'architect designed' apartment within the villa, offered for holiday rentals, is completely private, having its own entrance and terraces. A large beamed sitting/dining room opens onto a private terrace, with ancient olive trees and balcony. It is elegantly furnished with antiques. A large archway opens onto a fully-fitted kitchen with every mod-con and decorated with hand-painted provencal tiles. This also opens onto a lovely private terrace where one can dine under the ancient olive trees. A peaceful location with many lovely walks, yet only a 20 min drive from all the nightlife and beaches, golf, tennis, fishing, and cycling.

Bedrooms:
There are two bedrooms (sleeping maximum of four people)- the main bedroom has 2 single beds each measuring 90x200 cms. These beds can be converted to a double if requested. This attractive provençal style bedroom opens onto a terrace with uninterrupted views south to the sea beyond.
You will be woken to the sound of bird song and the sun streaming through the shuttered windows , for many days of the year.
The second bedroom is slightly smaller and contains two single beds measuring 90x180 cms. It is equally pretty, very comfortable and has lots of character.
Between the two bedrooms is a separate dressing area with large hanging wardrobes and chests of drawers, providing plenty of storage space for suitcases, etc.
Bathrooms:
Off the bedrooms is a large, elegant shower room, including washbasin and toilet. There is a hairdryer provided. Large luxury bath and hand towels are also provided, including bathrobes .
Kitchen:
From the sitting room a large archway opens onto a charming fitted kitchen with hand painted provençal tiles. It contains all you need and more, such as a dishwasher, washing machine, fridge/freezer, fan oven, microwave oven, coffee machine, blender, kettle, teapot, + many extras.
The kitchen opens onto a private shaded terrace with a lemon tree, and an ancient olive tree over two hundred years old, which provides perfect shade during the hot months for romantic outdoor dining.
Living Rooms:
The beamed sitting room is furnished with antiques and is very bright, having French windows opening onto the south facing terrace, again with superb views. A TV set with video recorder, DVD player + the latest films and access to many satellite channels, is available for your entertainment. There is also a CD player installed in the kitchen. Original oil paintings by the resident artist, adorn the walls.

Fly into Nice using a budget airline such as Easy Jet, hire a car over the internet (far cheaper) then drive along the R202 heading north, direction Dignes. Cross the bridge at La Manda, and take directions Gattieres. The villa is located on the Route du St. Laurent, 650 metres from the village. Journey time, approx. 20 mins.

Further details
During the month of July, surrounding villages and Gattieres put on a great open air professional opera, with an international youth orchestra conducted by one of Paris's chef's d'orchestre from the Conservatoire de Paris. There are also numerous concerts held in the ancient village churches and halls.
The famous market street, Corso Saleya, in Nice old town is open daily for produce from Provence, and antiques. There are many open-air markets in the vicinity of Gattieres.
Booking notes
Families are welcome, but unfortunately, pets, no as we have two lovely cats.
Smoking is only permitted outside on the balconies or terraces as we have smoke alarms inside the apartment.

Outside
The pool is shared with the on-site owners, but your privacy is observed at all times. We usually swim when guests decide to go out! We have a secure parking area within the electric gates of the villa.
The BBQ, and pizza oven are available for your use, plus the poolside furniture. You are welcome to pick the fruit from the gardens. There is also an outdoor bar next to the built-in stone BBQ. A private terrace next to the kitchen is furnished with table and chairs, plus loungers. There are many toys for the children.
