Cheap flights to Geneva and very reasonable rent charges add up to a sensibly priced luxury holiday.
In summer the range of activities is considerable. There is walking, biking and pony trekking in the mountains with glorious views; paragliding and rock climbing (for the adventurous); swimming, tennis and golf in the vicinity and a full range of water sports on Lake Annecy.
In winter Grand Bornand is a well-established, fully linked ski resort with over 200km of marked runs gathered around a genuine alpine village. There are also extensive cross country trails and snowy walking paths.
The location of this chalet is unsurpassed being right on a green run that leads directly to all the local ski lifts. It is truly ski-in, ski-out and drive-in, drive-out.
Chalet Maigret is a modern chalet built of wood in the traditional style giving it a classic mountain look. Inside the wooden walls and the massive timber beams give it an air of solidity and warmth. It is fully centrally heated.
The first floor is the heart of the chalet and is made up of a large open plan room with separate areas for cooking, eating and relaxing. There is also a cloakroom with separate WC.
The fully fitted kitchen has a ceramic hob, oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and cooking utensils. It has ample storage space for all your provisions. There are French windows that open out to the deck at the back.
The dining area has a large table and chairs with matching sets of glass, crockery and cutlery for 10 people. A high chair is available for small children.
The sitting room is well furnished with comfortable modern sofas and matching curtains. There is a digital TV/video which receives a wide variety of international channels and radio programmes. There is a good selection of books and games. A wood-burning stove is supplied with logs, etc. A telephone is provided and is charged at the standard France Telecom rates.
French windows lead out onto the balcony at the front of the chalet with good views to the Col de la Colombiere. This Col is one of the classic routes of the Tour de France and the race passes over it most years.
On the second floor are three twin-bedded rooms, each with a balcony. There are also two bathrooms each with a bath, basin and WC. On the ground floor is a bedroom with 2 pairs of full-sized bunk beds, a shower room with basin and WC. All sheets and bath towels are included. A cot is available for infants.
There is a heated laundry room with a washing machine, tumble dryer and ironing equipment. The large garage can be used for storing sports kit.
In the summer you can step out of the chalet onto a huge network of walking paths which can take you far into the mountains, away from civilisation. You can get around on mountain bikes too, which you can rent, on many of the same paths. Swimming is available in the outdoor pool complex in Le Grand Bornand or you could go down to the beach on Lake Annecy and swim in the cleanest lake in Europe. There are several championship standard Golf courses within 2 hours drive as well as a challenging 9 hole course in Grand Bornand. Tuition is available. There are tennis courts nearby and a great range of other activities aimed at children.
Summer is also the time for outdoor festivals from lakeside classical music and fireworks to Le Bonheur Des Momes one of the biggest children's festivals in Europe.
There are many activities organised for visitors based around the village. You can sign up for a whole week of various organised activities.
In Winter there is magnificent skiing literally on the doostep. A green run passes right by the chalet which gives access to all the runs. The exceptional location of this chalet at 1300 metres means that it is truly "ski-in, ski-out".
