Mountain walks - There are good, but winding, roads up to the mountain villages of Kastania, Saidhona and Exohori. You can use these as bases for many pleasant walks with dramatic views up towards the Taggetos mountains.
Circular walks - The path to Platsa and Pigi starts 2 kilometres beyond Agios Nikalaios. You can start from the sandy beach (Malsova) and from here there is a lovely circular walk up the village of Platsa across to Pigi and back down using the well built dry stone donkey paths constructed over 400 years ago. The paths are a mass of flowers in Spring. You will be rewarded with magnificent views.

Description:
The house is less than 1 mile from 3 sandy beaches a short drive from many more. The house captures the best of the traditional architecture of the Outer Mani region. Walls were built from a double layer of local stone providing excellent insulation and creating an impression of timeless elegance. The natural reds and yellows in the stone capture and reflect all the warm colours of the sun, especially at sun set. The stone has been left deliberately bare in the main room with small earthenware features setting off the natural beauty of the stone. The main room has a high ceiling and fan so that air circulates to provide natural air conditioning. The mezzanine area providing a generous double bedroom is a feature of Mani architecture. All the furniture has been hand-made by the local carpenter who also made the stairs and internal doors. The door ways and window sills are made from marble, and the downstairs floors made from Aegean tiles with a traditional Greek pattern feature

Upstairs, the large mezzanine bedroom has twin beds. The main bedroom has double bed, en suite and balcony

Downstairs bathroom with WC, bath/shower, wash basin in a marble surround. With a wide sliding door, it is designed so that someone in a wheelchair can use the facilities with ease.

Kitchen:
The open plan kitchen has electric cooker and hob, large fridge/freezer and plenty of cupboard space. Crockery with an olive leaf design is sufficient for 10 people, so you can entertain friends.

Travel
There are three principle ways to get to Lefktro. Fly to Kalamata. There are now several charter companies that fly to Kalamata from a wide variety of UK airports during the summer season (May to October). They tend to fly out and back on Sundays, and you have the choice of 1, 2, 3 or even more weeks. Kalamata airport is just over 1 hours drive from Lefktro. There are plenty of car hire firms that have an office at the airport and a Google search for ‘Kalamata airport car hire’.
Distances
Everything in the main resort (Stoupa) is a short walk (10 - 15 mins) away including 3 beaches, 3 supermarkets, bars, 2 ice cream parlours and plenty of tavernas 5 of which are open all the year round. The bus stop is less than 5 minutes walk away next to the bakery (try the spinach pie) with buses to Kardamili and Kalamata one way and to Agios Nikalaios and Areopoli the other. 15 mins drive or the regular bus up the coast takes you to the dignified town of Kardamili.

Kalo Riziko’ is Greek for good roots, and is a traditional blessing for those buying or building a new home. We hope that you will want to come and stay at our beautiful house and make it your ‘home away’. Maybe like us, you will end up owning your own stone built house and put down good roots in the Mani. Available for rent throughout the year.

Beach
The house is less than 1 mile from 3 sandy beaches, and a short drive from many more. Stoupa beach stretches around a wide bay. There are beds and umbrellas for hire, and tavernas and bars all along the sea front. The sea is warm enough to swim comfortably from March to November. Just south of this, there is a little beach opposite sea food tavernas. This beach is narrower and not commercialised.
Kalogria is the perfect family beach and features in all the tour operator brochures. It gets busy
Accessibility
The ground floor is one level with no steps. The large downstairs bathroom with toilet, bath (plus shower) and washbasin has a wide sliding door and has been designed so that someone in a wheelchair can use the facilities with ease. The doorway beside the bathroom leads into a large downstairs bedroom with twin beds and double door leading out onto its own patio area. There is a path round the back of the house with 3 ssteps down to the second patio and main garden.
Outside
Two glass doors lead out onto the first of two patio areas with plenty of space for sitting and eating out. It catches the sun in the afternoon and evening and is the perfect place to sit and watch the sun go down across the bay or to chat to local people as they make their way up to the village. Two olive trees, the herb garden and a wild pear tree provide a pleasing counterpoint to the view and some privacy. Steps down from the patio or the path round the back of the house lead to the second patio which catches the sun in the mornings and is more secluded, hidden from the road by olive, orange and lemon trees. Shade is provided by the mulberry tree and the vine growing up the pergola. The garden furniture and stone benches built into the walls provide a wonderful setting for large or intimate evening meals. The garden area has fruit trees, jasmine, geraniums and bougainvillea and an open area of grass and succulent plants. Further steps lead down into a terraced orchard area.
