Travel
Fiumicino/Ciampino airports are both a 40 minute car drive from Capena. Car hire is recommended, but not essential. Airport pick up by taxi can be arranged upon request.
Distances
Rome is 40 minutes from Capena by car/local transport. The nearest station with frequent trains into Rome is 10 minutes away by car. Capena is only a 10 minute car drive from the main A1 motorway which runs north to Florence and South to Naples

There are essential shops/services in the village and a bustling market on Saturdays, whereas larger supermarkets are situated a 10 minute drive away.
There are also many excellent and reasonably-priced restaurants. Romans drive out to Capena at the weekend to enjoy its unpretentious cuisine.
There are two swimming pools within a 15 minute drive from Capena. Piscina Tevere has two Olympic-sized pools, and a children's pool with water slides. Selva Grande pool has one 40m pool and a children's pool.

Beach
The nearest beaches are at Fregene which is 45 mins away by car. We recommend Il Villagio dei Pescatori for a decent beach and some reasonably-priced fish restaurants. A favourite coastal town is Sperlonga which is about 1.5 hours away by car. It is a spectacular white cliff town overlooking long sandy beaches, and is located between Rome and Naples. The islands of Ponza and Elba are well worth a visit.
The best and nearest place to cool off in summer is in a lake. Lakes Bracciano/Martignano are 40 minutes away by car.

Lake Martignano is also located approximately 45 minutes away by car, and is a little more off the beaten track, but is very beautiful and offers a free beach.
Ski
The village is one hour's drive away from Terminillo. A greater variety of ski resorts can be found in Abruzzo, about 1.5 hours drive. Ovindoli is highly recommended.
