:: ABOUT THIS PROPERTY
The following information has been added
by the owner of this property:
Our friendly village shop is well stocked. They also have their own fresh and cured meats and fantastic sausage. Amelia has several supermarkets, food shops, banks and cash machines. The staple foodstuffs are reminiscent of those stocked by expensive delicatessens outside of Italy. In Amelia and nearby there are several restaurants offering typical Umbrian cuisine at reasonable prices, a destination restaurant and one offering a coeliac menu. Food is very important here. Italian life is centered around the piazza, or square, and table. The long spate of festas, sacra's and festivals in this area, which run from late spring through to early autumn, are testimony to this. In an atmosphere of excitement, bursting with local pride, the residents of each town or village cook and serve al fresco their own specialties. These range from frog legs and snails to hare and wild boar and the meals including wine are given at very low cost. There is music and dancing too and in a relaxed fun atmosphere visitors can polka, foxtrot and tango the night away. Not to be missed are the historical re enactments and pageants or 'corteo storico' run by the towns of Umbria at different times in summer. Here townspeople dress up in handmade medieval costumes and among other things parade through the town to the accompaniment of trumpets and drums. The thermal spas of Viterbo are within easy reach- just a 40min drive away. The Terni waterfalls and white water rafting are 35 mins drive away. Horse riding and trekking are offered by a local riding school at very reasonable prices which include insurance and gear.
For wine lovers you can buy table wine directly from the vineyards of Amelia at less than two euro a litre as well as a wide selection of bottled wines. If this all sounds too exhausting then what better than a prosecco in the square of Amelia engaging in the age -old ritual of people watching. For art lovers and choc-aholics Perugia is not to be missed.

Guest comments
Le Stalle was perfect. Meals on the patio (cooked in the large, well-equipped kitchen) great views, friendly villagers, fine dining and sipping beers in Amelia, leisurely drives on convenient and good highways to towns like Orvieto and Deruta & more. Helen & Panaghis were gracious hosts taking us on walks, to local wineries, pointing us to interesting sites. We'll definitely return to Le Stalle - Diane
We have holidayed at the Poggio every year since 1999. The accommodation is of an excellent standard with warm, helpful back up from the owners at all times. Peaceful and tranquil, it's the ultimate escape from busy lives.There's lots to do and see in the vicinity - C.O'Brian
We think it's our own special secret we've enjoyed our 3 generational family holiday there for years. All the houses are very comfortable and well equipped for your needs but the most important aspect of Le Stalle is the welcome you receive from the Hannicks and the people of Macchie - The Murphys.

Outside
Each house has its own terrace with comfortable seating arrangements plus tables and chairs for dining. There's a delightful terraced garden and vegetable patch with shaded seating areas. The pool has ample natural shade, sunbeds, tables and chairs, with other seating and playing areas around the property, a rough football field inside the olive grove and a picnic area in the fields shaded by a listed oak tree. The large pool -measuring 14m by 7m and 1.40 metres deep- is shared by the guests of Le Stalle, La Pergola and Le Ciliege. It's not a problem as guests usually have different rhythms with some touring while others are swimming or relaxing on their terrace. When the whole property is rented by one group they have exclusive use of the pool and facilities. There's a courtyard around a traditional wood burning pizza oven with a large BBQ next to this as well as a smaller BBQ near each house.
