• Enjoy a full day visit to some of Umbria’s treasures – the ancient heart of Perugia, known for its
chocolate and famous Assisi with its awesome cathedrals and history of St. Francis.
• Spend the day at Lake Trasimeno, a vast lake in the heart of Umbria where water sports are
available and enjoy a delicious lunch in one of the restaurants which clings to the shores, serving
a lake fish soup or wood-fire cooked carp.
• Less exposed than neighbouring Tuscany, the wines of Umbria are no less delicious. Take a tour
of some excellent estates to try the full-bodied and spicy Sangrantino di Montefalco.
The nearby city of Perugia, offers many delights for visitors to enjoy. See the magnificent Palazzo
Capitano del Popolo or take a stroll through the relaxing botanical gardens. There are numerous pretty
churches to admire in Perugia, as well as the cathedral of San Lorenzo and much art and culture to
absorb through the many museums and monuments. Additionally, there are plenty of retail opportunities
to purchase local specialties like wine, extra virgin olive oil, mushrooms, and truffles. Just outside
Perugia, is the lovely Lake Trasimeno offering stunning scenery and some excellent fish restaurants.
Laying on the slopes of Monte Ingino, Gubbio is one of the most ancient towns of Umbria. With ancient
sights to see, such as many churches, palaces and a cathedral, Gubbio is certainly teeming with history
and offers a very interesting visit.
From a high Tuscan hill, fifty miles from Florence, between Arezzo and Perugia, rises the equally ancient
city of Cortona. Before the city lies a vast and beautiful plain, and it is flanked on either side by distant
hills and valleys, while behind it are towering mountains. It is a beautiful city to visit, offering stunning
views and is small, so easily visited in a couple of hours.
