Egmont Village has an excellent cafe / restaurant, Kauri Cottage. It also has a local shop / post office and a service station.

I generally don't bother with deposits, provided I have full contact details. However, if guests are more comfortable having paid a 10% deposit, I will issue a receipt by return.

Golf
Taranaki has some of the least crowded golf-courses in the world - 18 I think! At least 4 within 15kms of the cottage.
Fishing
The Waiwhakaiho River can be easily accessed via the neighbour's farm track (it's just a 5 minute walk). However, fishing license is required.
Scuba Diving
Scuba diving is practiced around the Sugar-Loaf Islands (to the West of New Plymouth)
Beach
New Plymouth beaches are within easy reach: Back-Beach and Fitzroy Beach - Oakura Beach is also popular.
Ski
Occasional (weather dependent) skiing may be available - accessed from the Stratford side of Mount Taranaki
Wine Tasting
Oakurukuru and Waiau wineries offer tastings, as well as a couple of local fruit wineries - Sentry Hill and Cottage Wines.
