Lovers of good organic wine have heard of Quinta da Comenda, it exports its prize-winning whites and roses all over the world. What you probably won't have heard is that the first King of Portugal, D. Afonso Henriques, did battle nearby, broke a leg and was forced to stay at his uncle's place, the Quinta da Comenda. It later passed to the hands of the Order of Malta, hence the cross above the main entrance. Wander down to the river and a Roman bridge, through the vineyards and orchards.
In a quiet and relaxed atmosphere our guests may enjoy 21st century comfort in a granite manor house with a medieval history. Quinta da Comenda has 6 double rooms, each with a bathroom; a wheelchair accessible apartment; swimming pool; gardens; children's play area; chapel; billiards; table tennis; and a boat to row on the river. You will find a complimentary basket of organic fruit in your room. You can observe the method of organic agriculture and visit our cave where the modern wine-making is practised to obtain certified organic wine. We organise wine-tastings for groups.
