Robin and Evelyn Davey invite you to 'The End Place', which is a family run self-catering holiday cottage situated in the unique country setting of Hermiston Village, only minutes from the City of Edinburgh, Scotland's internationally renowned festival capital.
We are proud to offer a very high standard of accommodation all year round for up to 4 people in our newly restored traditional country cottage.
The End Place self-catering holiday cottage is a recent conversion of the former wheelwright's workshop in the Scottish Lowland farming village of Hermiston, half a mile from the city of Edinburgh boundary. Close to all the amenities of the capital city, it enjoys a peaceful rural setting. It was completed to a very high standard in May 2004.
The cosy lounge has a south-facing picture window looking out directly to the village green with its children's play facilities. It is equipped with TV/video/DVD player, radio/CD player and "wood burner effect" electric fire. A door leads out to the patio area at the rear.
The modern kitchen is open-plan from the lounge, and is fully equipped with full-size electric oven and hob, microwave, automatic washer/dryer and fridge with freezer compartment. There is a dining table to seat 4, and a full range of utensils, crockery and cutlery is provided. A child's high chair is also available on request.
Located on the ground floor, the fully tiled bathroom has an electric heated towel rail, shaver point (110/230V), wash basin, toilet and a bath with electric shower unit above.
The double bedroom is equipped with a double bed, double wardrobe and a chest of drawers. A child's travel cot can also be provided on request. The dormer window has an open outlook to the Kingdom of Fife and the Forth Bridges.
The twin bedroom is equipped with two single beds, double wardrobe and chest of drawers. The dormer window shares a similar view to the north as the double bedroom.
The cottage has full central heating, and all electricity, bed linen and towels are included.
Hermiston Village is located half a mile to the west of Edinburgh, Scotland, UK, immediately north of the Heriot-Watt University. It is bounded to the south by the A71 Livingston road and to the north by the Union Canal, which has now been re-opened as the Millennium Link. Hermiston is a typical Lothian "Ferme Toun" and was awarded Conservation Area status on 20 June 1997 to preserve its unspoiled traditional character against an ever expanding city. The village is in a unique location, being only half a mile from the Edinburgh City Bypass with easy access to the M8, M9 and M90 motorways, the airport and the new Zeebrugge to Rosyth Superfast ferry terminal. There is a good regular bus service to and from Edinburgh city centre. The village enjoys a peaceful rural location and is an ideal base for exploring Edinburgh, Central Scotland, the Borders, Fife and Perthshire.
The Union Canal which runs to the north of the village was designed by Hugh Baird and built in 1822. It has now been fully restored and re-opened along with the Forth and Clyde Canal which it joins at the Falkirk Wheel, and once more you can sail by boat from Edinburgh to Glasgow, or just potter about locally with your canoe or small boat.
The village is adjacent to the Heriot-Watt University and surrounded by peaceful country walks, including the beautiful Pentland Hills.
The cottage is located directly opposite the village green with safe play facilities for young children.
Close by is the new Adventure Centre at Ratho, and the Midlothian Ski Centre at Hillend with all-year skiing (bring your skis or hire them on-site).
Although the village itself has no shops or pubs, the surrounding area has a selection of restaurants and pubs, a swimming pool and a multi-screen cinema.
Only minutes away is the centre of Edinburgh, with all the attractions this World Heritage City has to offer, including the Castle, Holyrood Palace, world-class shopping, museums, art galleries and a myriad of boutiques and historic streets to explore in the Old Town.
