Further details
The Wayfaring Traveler Ranch offers the chance to experience the western setting. Relax at our guest house, hike the trails, trek with a llama, mountain bike the region, or just sit back andenjoy the beautiful sunsets. The fully equipped guest house can easily accommodate families or small groups.
WTR is a working llama ranch. We have 35 llamas and expect a few additions at the beginning of each summer. WTR offers llama day hikes with prepared lunches, guided treks, llama rentals and a horse motel. We also grow organic produce for the local markets, and our vegetarian meals.
WTR is centrally located between the Big Horn and Absaroka Mountains outside the small community of Burlington, WY. Nearby Yellowstone
National Park and Cody, WY are the hubs of tourism of the area. The Cloud Peak, North Absaroka, and Washaki Wilderness areas are within access of WTR.
The wild horses of McCullough Peaks, the Heart Mtn. Relocation Center, the Dinosaur Tracks or the Dinosaur Dig, the nightly Stampede Rodeo in Cody, the Big Horn Canyon National Recreation Area, the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, and catch those lunker fish with Wyoming's Painted Desert Resort are just a few activities within the realms of your vacation time while at the ranch.
If you like aircraft you will enjoy seeing the Museum of Flight and Aerial Firefighting. The staff at WTR like to fly, and can accommodate those wishing to fly-in to stay at the ranch. Check out the Flying ??? page for area information.
The other menagerie of the ranch are our Belgian draft horses, our (2) barking hippo St. Bernard's, and our 1 expert mousers. We've had resident Great Horned Owls, and there have been numerous bald and golden eagles. We seem to have a birding mecca within the Basin area.
WTR is located 3 miles east of Burlington, WY, on Lane 38. At the bar in Burlington turn east on the gravel road and proceed 3 miles. When you see a yellow Llama-Xing & "Lama Drive" sign the Wayfaring Traveler Ranch entrance will be at the top of the hill on your right.
Make yourself at home, browse through our library and feel free to explore the 80 acres and animals of the ranch.
Hike to the top of Table Mtn and easily see the mountain vistas just 40 miles away. We are away from the influence of city lights so the nightly star scene is spectacular.
You can experience the feeling of seclusion at the GH; gather up a book and while away the hours on the porch swing, or walk out to the llama pasture and take in the smells of sage.
You are warmly welcomed by hosts, BJ & Michael Carlson, and all their menagerie to WTR's Guest House.
The GH features a rustic setting with great views and easy access to scenic hikes or bike trails.
