The world famous Palm Island projects are actually three: The Palm Jumeirah, The Jebel Ali Palm, and The Palm Deira. The Jumeirah Palm is the first and by far the most prestigious. The Palms are so named because they are shaped like a palm tree. They broadly consist of a trunk, fronds and a sweeping crescent island which surrounds them. The base of the trunk is connected to the mainland by a bridge, making it technically an island. The Palm Jumeirah has luxury villas on the fronds, and will have numerous (reportedly 40!) international brand hotels on the crescent. The trunk has apartments and amenities, is also to be home to the Trump International Hotel and Tower and have its own monorail transportation system.
