Our Farm:
Located in a quiet area 1,6 km away from traffic noises, on a hill with a gorgeous few. We house on our farm purebred Icelandic horses, registered Scottish Highland Cattle and cats in all colors. Our main goal is training horses. We like, when guests watch the training or join us on our daily checking tour through the pasture and the barns. Nice walking trails through the woods. The Father John Angus Rankin Cultural Centre (with public access to Internet and e-mail) is in walking distance. Restaurants, shopping malls and the sea shore can be reached in about 15 minutes by car. Guests with pets are welcome.
Icelandic Horses & Horsemanship
Icelandics has a very individual character.
The Icelandic Horse is patient, adaptable, uncomplicated and sometimes very spirited. It has a friendly personality and a special affinity towards people. Well trained it is an excellent family horse.
Icelandics are 13 - 14 hands tall and are ponies by North American standards, they are referred to as horses in Europe.
They weigh 800 - 1000 pounds and are bred to carry adults.
Icelandic Horses are slow to mature. They should not be ridden until the age of 4 years. Their period of greatest strength is from 8 to 18 years and it is not unusual to ride them until the age of 30.
In a herd of Icelandic Horses you can find a large variety of colours, besides chestnut, bay, black and grey, there are yellow, red and blue duns, pinto and a wide variety of other shades.
Icelandics have five natural gaits, walk, trot, canter, pace and tolt. The tolt made these horses so famous worldwide. One hears the tolt as a four-beat staccato and sees the rider sits perfectly still in the saddle, without the tossing movement of the trot.
