The Haute Pyrenees are situated in a beautiful and relatively undiscovered corner of South West France. Only 40 minutes drive from Spain, benefiting from a Mediterranean climate with long summers and short sharp winters with 300 plus days of sunshine a year. Autumn extends well into late November, and by March spring has arrived. It is possible to lunch outside for most of the year. Take the cable car to the weather station on the Pic de Midi de Bigorre, 2887 metres high. Visit the world famous Lourdes. . Take the train from Lannemezan and visit the airbus factory in Toulouse. Soak up the atmosphere of the Tour de France. Red Kites, Eagles and Griffon Vultures can all be seen in the area. Trout fishing is very popular in the Nestes Valley, with Saint Laurent de Neste hosting the world championships in September 2007. There are countless trails and paths to explore by foot or cycle, from easy walks close to the house, to the famous GR10 long distance footpath which links the Atlantic and the Mediterranean
