The town has undergone huge development over the past few years and is now one of the economic and cultural driving forces of the region. The town has a river running through it with the same name. It has a population of approx. 350,000 and has an underground system and airport (Sondika). Bilbao sets itself apart from other towns with it's numerous galleries and museums, of which there is a new one, museum "Guggenheim", theatres, concert halls, cafe-terraces, bars and nightlife. 35km from San Sebastian, 25km from Castro Uriales and it's lovely beach. Must see: The Chateau de Butron, approx. 20km away.
