Local activities could include walking, mountain-biking, horse-riding (riding lessons in English available) birdwatching and swimming of course! the house is located within just 2 minutes drive to Los Ventorros, which has a shop, a spanish-owned bar and restaurant, perfect for refreshments and meals. Comares village is a 10 minute drive from the property, a stunning, white-washed village and in fact the highest in the whole of the Axarquia region with a relaxed attitude to life. Village shops will cater for basic everyday needs and there are several bars serving good tapas, meals and local wine. You will find a bank with cash machine, post office, pharmacy and tobaconist and of course stunning views over the surrounding countryside.
Town facilities including a modern shopping centre, multi cinema, street market and water park are found in Velez Malaga, around 30 minutes drive.
Exploring Andalucia: Casa Vieja makes a good country base for visiting the most popular sights of Andalucia. Granada and the Alhambra palace is just over 1 hour away by car; with the Sierra Nevada ski resort a short drive from the city of Granada. Seville is well worth a visit at around 2 hours drive. Cordoba is a similar drive and Malaga is just 1 hour by car (bus also available) and is a city of culture, beaches and great shopping. Nerja and its famous caves is a great family day of entertainment.
We recommend our guests to drink bottled water which can be brought locally and cheaply.
During our hottest months there are mosquitos around, we do recommend you bring repellant.

Notes on accommodation: This 'old house' has been restored to a comfortable standard whilst retaining the typical Andalucian country features of tiled floors and wooden shuttered windows etc. Please note that although Casa Vieja appears as a detached villa and affords a high degree of privacy, the owners accommodation adjoins it at the rear of the property.
Swimming pool and jacuzzi are shared with guests of other house when occupied. Sorry, no pets.

Travel
Malaga airport is a 50min drive approx and Grananda airport and 1 hour 30 minute drive.
A car is recommended to enjoy the area fully unless the local bar & shop are all you want to visit! (A taxi from the airport can be arranged) Car hire is easy and inexpensive. Several budget airlines operate to and from Malaga and Grananda. A daily bus service runs from nearby Comares to Malaga City.
Distances
Los Ventorros village - 5 minutes walk.
Comares - 5 minutes drive or a healthy uphill climb 30 minute walk.
Torree Del Mar - 45 minute drive.
Riogordo and Colmenar are approx 30 mins by car.
Nerja and the caves is 1 hour max.
Marbella is a fun day trip and takes around 90 mins.
Benalamdina approx 1 hour.

A provisional booking can be made and will be held for 24 hours while flights etc are booked. A 25% non refundable deposit is requested to confirm your booking - payable in euros or UK pounds.
Please ensure you have relevent travel insurance and an up to date E1 11 form.
Changeover day
Flexible except Sat to Sat in July/August. For late Saturday arrivals we do recommend you bring some basic provisions for breakfast Sunday as all supermarkets are closed until Monday.
Golf
There are 3 Golf Courses within a 1 hour drive. Baviera 18 hole public course is just a 30 minute drive. Further details on request.
Beach
The Mediteranian coast is 35 minutes drive through spectacular scenery passing groves of Avocado and Citrus trees.Torre del Mar has a long sandy beach with many small beach bar/restaurants right on the sand. Here and at Velez Malaga, the nearest Market Town, you will all types of eateries, bike hire, go carts a water park and the fishing harbour and marina at Caleta de Velez.
Ski
Visit the ski centre in the Sierra Nevada near Granada city centre. The drive will take approx 90 minutes. Ask for details.

Casa Vieja De Maria - The master bedroom has a private roof terrace with fantastic views. The established gardens (shared with Butterfly Cottage) features a large pool (irregular shape 10m x 6m approximately and 1m/1.5m deep). Large sunny terraces with sunloungers and a gas barbecue.
The pool/jacuzzi are open from April– October and has sun loungers and a shower. There are 3 private terraces to this property.
Both properties are approached from the Malaga road down a short, driveway – some 300m from the road. Parking is just outside the house on the gravel driveway. There is also the use of a table tennis table.
Butterfly Cottage - Has 2 private terraces, one with BBQ, table and Chairs the other with the option to sit beneath the almond trees and soak up the sun.
